Rare Computer Errors And How To Fix Them

While working on your Windows computer, you may receive many different types of error messages. Some of these are quite common and are displayed to tell you that an illegal event has occurred. These error messages are usually resolved if the incorrect user input is corrected. At times, errors occur due to temporary conflicts and are resolved when you restart your PC.

There are some error messages, however, that may look quite unfamiliar and will require you to do something extra to resolve them. Some of the examples are discussed below.

Example 1:

"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80004005"

Error Code 0x80004005 usually generates when you install or activate the Windows operating system. This problem usually occurs if a Windows activation file is missing from your computer. This may happen when some other program or a security software is interfering with the activation process or the activation file is manually modified.

You can resolve this issue by either performing an in-place upgrade (from Windows 98) to Windows XP. If your current Windows XP installation is creating problems, then you can use the Windows XP setup disk to get into the Recovery Console, and then replace the following files:

  • Wpa.dbl
  • Pidgen.dll
  • Actshell.html
  • Licdll.dll
  • Regwizc.dll
  • Licwmi.dll
  • Wpabaln.exe

These files are located in %systemroot%/system32.

Example 2:

“Stop: 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”

This is a stop error message that is generated due to one of the following reasons:

  • A hardware on your computer is malfunctioning.
  • There is a problem with a device driver.
  • An incomplete software is installed on the system.

If your PC is operational, then you need do one of the following to resolve the Stop 0x0000000A error:

  1. Reboot your PC and then try to start it using the Last Known Good Configuration. To do this, you need to press F8 at system startup and then select the appropriate option from the displayed list.
  2. Get rid of, disable, or reinstall the faulty device driver.
  3. Open Event Viewer and then check for any problems that might be behind the stop error. If you find something, resolve this issue for a solution.
  4. Lastly, use a good registry cleaner tool to perform a thorough scan and repair of the registry.

Example 3:

Windows Update Error Code 0x80072ee2

This error code is generated when you try to update your system from the Microsoft Update Website or the Microsoft Windows Update Website. The problem occurs when your system is unable to receive the updates due to some reason.

To resolve the issue, perform the following step. After each step check to see if you can install the updates. If you cannot, proceed to the next step.

  1. Open a couple of Web sites to ensure that your Internet connection is working. If it is not, check your Internet settings or contact your ISP for solution.
  2. If you have a firewall , ensure that it does not block the access to and download from the update Web sites.
  3. Enter Microsoft Update and Windows Update Web sites as trusted Websites in Internet Explorer Trusted sites list.
  4. Open “%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts” file and then remove any lines related to Windows Update and Microsoft Update from it.
  5. At Command Prompt, run “proxycfg –d” to clear the WinHTTP proxy. After that start and stop the ‘wuauserv’ service.

These are just a few examples. There can be many such errors that may generate on your computer. The best way to proceed when an error occurs is to search for its solution on the Microsoft Knowledgebase or third-party message forums and help Web sites.
